Neru Leavasa is a Labour Party Member of Parliament, according to a secondary source representing the Takanini electorate [24][32].
Leavasa studied at the University of Auckland Medical School, according to a secondary source [17], and is reported to have been based in Auckland from 2009 [16]. He is said to have obtained an MB ChB qualification in 2009 [31], and went on to work as a house officer before moving into general practice [8]. He is a confirmed specialist GP [10], and according to secondary sources also holds a Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP), reportedly awarded in 2014 [28][30].
Prior to entering Parliament, Leavasa is reported to have worked as a GP across several clinics, including Southpoint Family Doctors and Baderdrive Doctors in Māngere [2][6][1]. According to a secondary source, he also practised at Te Manu Aute Whare Oranga [4] and developed a background in sports medicine [11]. He is said to have served as a member of the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu local board and worked in local government community initiatives focused on grants and services for youth [25][14].
According to a secondary source, Leavasa founded a community trust running wellbeing programmes for Māori and Pasifika communities in Māngere [13], and is reported to have founded The Waiting Room in August 2019 [15]. He is also said to have served as clinical director of The Cause Collective from around June 2024 [26][27], as well as Committee Chair of the Clinical Advisory Committee for that organisation [20].
Leavasa entered Parliament as a Labour MP from 17 October 2020 [24][32]. According to secondary sources, he has held the role of Deputy Chair of the Health Select Committee [21] and Chair of the Labour Caucus Labour Health, Wellbeing and Social Services Committee [18].
